This saturday night the three-time Bellator champ, Michael Chandler will get one of the quickest chances at a title in UFC history. After needing just 150 seconds to defeat Dan Hooker in his UFC debut, Chandler (22-5) will be fighting Charles Oliveira (30-8) for the vacant lightweight championship (155 lbs).
This title fight comes to Chandler as some of the top lightweight situations have allowed for it. Dustin Poirier chose to do the trilogy fight with Conor Mcgregor, and Khabib Nurmagomedov has officially retired which is why the belt is vacant in the division.
In the co-main event, Tony Ferguson (26-5) will face off against Beneil Dariush (20-4-1). This lightweight fight will be a great fight leading into the main event. The lightweight division rankings could look alot different after Saturday night.
Michael Chandler vs. Charles Oliveira
This fight will have many significant implications in the lightweight division. Michael Chandler is coming off of his UFC debut where he beat Dan Hooker in rather impressive fashion. After applying pressure from the start, Chandler caught Hooker with a left hand that dropped him and ended up finishing the co-main event four months ago at UFC 257.
Charles Oliveira is on an impressive eight-fight win streak where he reached the record books with 14 submissions. Oliveira has beaten some of the top lightweights in the division en route to his first title fight in his career. Will Chandler be able to hang with the experienced lightweight who feels he is destined for this moment? Or will Chandler show why he’s been the best in Bellator for so long?
Tony Ferguson vs. Beneil Dariush
In the co-main event, Tony Ferguson will have a tough test in front of himmt Beneil Dariush. Beneil Dariush is on a six-fight win streak with some very entertaining bouts. He has shown that he deserves this fight against Ferguson, who is an experienced veteran in the UFC. Ferguson is getting older and has lost his last two fights. If he loses this fight it could be a slow downfall for him. If he can get the victory, “El Cucuy” might have one last title run in him.
Chandler vs Oliveira
This is an event fight according to Vegas Oddsmakers and I agree. There is a small sample size for Chandler in the UFC but from the one fight we saw, he looks like he could be the real deal. Oliveira is the slight favorite in this fight as he is the more experienced fighter. If Oliveira can stay on the ground the whole fight that might be the recipe to victory for him. For Chandler if he can continue to put pressure on Oliveira I believe he will tire him out and ultimately get the win. In what should be an interesting main event with many implications on the Lightweight division, I am taking Michael Chandler to win via TKO/KO.
Fight Odds (via DraftKings):
Michael Chandler +110
Charles Oliveira -134
Ferguson vs Dariush
In what should be another entertaining fight with some unique fight styles, I have Dariush winning as I feel he is a bad matchup for Ferguson and will prove to be too skilled for the veteran Ferguson.
Fight Odds (via DraftKings):
Beneil Dariush -165
Tony Ferguson +135
